LeBron’s decision to sign with the Lakers in free agency was the biggest move of the summer in the NBA, but almost nobody expects them to be able to challenge the Golden State Warriors or Houston Rockets in the Western Conference next season despite LeBron’s streak of eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
So if the expectations for the Lakers is not a championship, what would constitute a successful season for LeBron and his new teammates? Paul Pierce weighed in on The Jump, and he thinks that if the Lakers can just get out of the first round in the West, that the season will be a success in Los Angeles, despite LeBron’s Finals streak coming to an end.
“(LeBron) doesn’t even think they’re contenders,” Pierce said. “They’re so young, inexperienced so second round would be a great season for the Lakers.”
