Tuesday’s episode of The Jump was a reunion of sorts among championship Celtics.
Doc Rivers joined the show to discuss his first place Philadelphia 76ers, but it wasn’t long before things devolved between the Celtics legends. The Truth asked Doc about his level of concern for the recent injury to Sixers big man Joel Embiid and Paul’s long-time coach used the question to get a jab in.
“Once I saw Joel walk off the floor instead of getting wheeled off the floor in a wheelchair, I was a little more comfortable,” Rivers said.
Later in Doc’s appearance, Truth told his favorite Doc story, from the 2010 season when, after a loss to the Lakers at Staples Center, Doc demanded 100 dollars from each player, clipped them together and put them in the ceiling of the visitors locker room.
“He was like ‘Give me $100’ and we was like “What Doc taking $100 for, what did we do?” We’re giving Doc $100 like “What’s this for?” I think KG was like “I’m not giving you $100.” He said “Kevin, give me $100!” So everybody gave him a $100 [bill] he put it in the roof and he said “Alright guys, we’re going to be back here for The Finals,” Paul recalls. “Lo and behold, we’re there for The Finals, we went up there and the money was still there. That was like…I will never forget that. Unfortunately, we didn’t win that [Finals] but he just knew something about the team.”
