March 19 marks the anniversary of two major events in NBA history.
The first was from 1969, when the Phoenix Suns lost a coin flip with the Milwaukee Bucks for the No. 1 pick in the draft, which was, of course, Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Come on Phoenix, you know tails never fails! Get with the program. The other major milestone was in 1995 when Michael Jordan famously announced: “I’m Back.”
On Thursday’s episode of the Jump, Paul Pierce joined Rachel Nichols and Matt Barnes discussed both events and how they shaped the league.
“That was one of the happiest days of my life. The GOAT is back,” Paul said. “I always tell Sam Cassel, he would only have one championship if Jordan didn’t retire…he would’ve had eight titles, for sure. They would have eight titles. I guarantee that.”
